Objectives

1) To become familiar with translation contexts and situations involving the transmission of the source text and
the target text.
2) To apply research methods and the use of specific resources in the area of the translation of pragmatic texts.
3) To acquire competence in the translation practice of pragmatic texts.
4) To be able to define specific terminologies in different types of pragmatic texts.
5) To learn to reflect critically upon the translation practice of pragmatic texts.
6) To carry out a piece of research work in this area.

Teaching method

The postgraduate seminars are both theoretical and practical with a strong interactive component on the part of the students. The theoretical component will include explanations by the teacher, with a view to problematizing the theoretical contents of the programme. The practical seminars will be based on the participation of the students who will be invited to submit translations and critical reviews of texts related to the contents of the programme. There will be individual tutorial sessions, with a view to preparing a final assignment.

Evaluation method

Assessment will focus on the written presentation of an essay or a commented translation (80%) and the respective oral presentation and discussion (20%).
