Objectives

a) Analyse and evaluate the current environmental issues
b) Understanding the diversity, complexity and interrelatedness of environmental issues
c) Identify the factors that contribute to the modification of environmental conditions on the planet
d) Understand the relevance of climate change on the environment and its consequences
e) Assess the environmental policies of nature conservation and mitigation of environmental problems at different scales
f) Recognize the importance of evaluating the natural resources in the dynamics of the territory
g) Analyse the kind of effects resulting from the use of endogenous natural resources
h) Integrate the knowledge of the environment and natural resources in land management

Prerequisites

None.

Subject matter

This seminar aims to demonstrate the close link between the use of natural resources and the emergence of the current environmental problems. In this context, will be subject of analysis and discussion topics as:

1) The interference of human activities on the environment and its consequences globally
2) The current scenarios concerning climate change and its impacts on society
3) Sustainable use of natural resources
4) Conflicts over ownership of natural resources and future prospects
5) The national and international mechanisms for mitigation and resolution of contemporary environmental problems
6) Future prospects.
