Schedule

It depends on the working method of each training course. The working time for the classes will be agreed with each PhD student, or when there are more than 10 students in each year, it will be agreed with all students of the programme.

Education objectives

The PhD programme in Geology is based on guiding principles and objectives underlying their integration within European Higher Education. With this design, their doctorates will operate within national and international levels in highly competitive environments, governed their formation and organization of the course by high quality standards.

A PhD in Geology seeks to attract and encourage young scientists in the fields of geology and engineering as well as capture geologists, engineers, geologists and professionals in related scientific areas, to conduct research to obtain the academic degree of Doctor.

The ultimate goal of the Doctorate in Geology will be to train highly skilled researchers and competent to undertake and develop research projects and development with autonomy in areas of economic and social activity and / or university environment.

Access conditions

  1. Holders of a Master´s degree in  Earth Sciences, or legal equivalent, or a degree equivalent to an undergraduate in the area of Earth science with a number of credit units equal to or greater than 240. The candidate must have a final mark of fourteen points ​​in these cycles.
  2. Holders of  a degree in the field of Earth Sciences and  holders of a relevant academic or scientific curriclum vitae that is recognized by the Scientific Council of FCT-UNL as evidence of ability to complete this course;
  3. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum in the field of Earth science that is recognized by the Scientific Council of FCT-UNL under proposal of the Scientific Committee of the DCT, as evidence of ability to complete this course.
