Education objectives
The Master Degree in Nutritional Fitotechnology for Human Health has as main objective the development of a critical posture on several issues of the Nutritional Phytotechnology applied to human health. It follows a strategic and operational planning that articulates the needs of specialized professionals and constitutes a coherent intervention in the resolution of structural deficits in the industrial sector related to the production and transformation of plant products with nutritional value and interest for human health. To this end, it has the following specific objectives:
a) To distinguish nutrient from medicine and incorporate nutraceuticals of plant origin in the prevention and treatment of disease and identify procedures for the evaluation of quality, safety and efficacy;
b) To identify the main medicinal plants of the Portuguese flora with therapeutic interest and its active principles;
c) To develop innovative capacities for the application of new methodologies and last generation technologies, for the optimization of processes associated to the production and transformation of plants with alimentary / nutritional interest for human health, taking into consideration the evaluation of the social, economic and environmental impacts;
d) To develop skills on food production lines, with a high automatism degree, ensuring that the measures associated with food control and safety in accordance with Portuguese and European legislation (under the RASFF - the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) are implemented on the processes.
