Objectives
With this CU it is our intention (i) to provide the student a direct contact with the sources and the methods of art history research ; (ii) to develop the capacity to write the art history ''narrative'', based on practical carefully selected case studies, fully informed in bibliographical terms and covering different historical sources of a transversal nature , in order to guarantee scientific rigour (i) develop the student''s critical judgement about the work of art, involving not only its material analysis but also its formal study, as well as the theoretical and philosophical issues associated with the process of assigning value and meaning to a work of art and / or cultural heritage.

Subject matter
1. Historiographical analysis and the development of ''narrative'' in the history of art: definitions and concepts.
2. Main research methodologies of art history.
3. Characterization of primary and secondary historical sources.
4. Selection and analysis of different case studies:
4.1 Bibliographic research and analysis of written documents;
4.2. Practical exercises of research of testimonies of architecture and / or works of art.
5. Development of practical sessions of experimental writing, based on the analyses of the presented case studies.
Evaluation method
The program of this curricular unit concerns an explanatory part of the syllabus, which allows the understanding of the theoretical questions; and a practical part in which the presentation of concrete case studies is carried out, using projected images, that allows the development of students'' visual and artistic culture, as well as the analysis of bibliography and related sources. In this practical component it is also inserted the writing of narratives.
The evaluation includes the participation of the student in class (25%), the accomplishment of a written record (25%) and the development of a written narrative about one of the case studies presented in class (50%).
