Objectives
To understand how the shipping market works from the economic and business perspectives, analyzing the relationship amongst trading countries, industries, markets, technologies and national and international policies.
Prerequisites
Subject matter
The organization of the shipping market. Seaborne trade and transport systems. Bulk and Liner shipping.
Shipping market cycles and shipping risks. Fundamentals of market economics: supply, demand and freight rate mechanisms. Freight indices and derivatives. Ship financing. Port organization and management.
Intermodality and co-modality, environmental, regulatory and policy issues.

Teaching method
The classes will include lectures with visual aids, drills, outside speakers on specific topics and student presentation of the first assignment.
Evaluation method
-Two written assignments will count for 70% of the final grade;
-Class participation will count for 30% of the final grade;
There will be no final exam.
