Objectives
Mastering Your Career is Nova SBE career development program designed to support Masters Students in setting professional goals and acquire the skills to attain them while benefiting from the network and brand recognition of Nova SBE in the marketplace. Comprising several activities and held by our expert Career Services Counselors and Invited Speakers, Mastering Your Career will help Masters Students consolidate relevant information and tools to increase the success rate of recruitment processes.

Program Structure:
Mastering Your Career comprises several activities held throughout the year. Below you find a comprehensive list with the details about them. Please note that some are mandatory, i.e. Masters Students are required to complete them in order to pass the Mastering Your Career course.
1. Industry Report (mandatory):
Students attending the program in Semester 2 need to compensate for the Discovery Week Masters Welcome event, please see details below hence having to complete a report on 3 industries/sectors chosen by the Student.
When: before 11th of March 2018.
How: Deliver report to respective Career Counselor. Instructions and report template are available on Mastering Your Career page in Moodle.
2. Career Classes (mandatory): Masters Students are required to attend Career Classes in the Spring semester of their Masters. Classes sum a total of 6 hours and their split depends on the Masters Program. Held by the Career Services Counselors and Invited Speakers, classes aim to provide an overview of the career management process and recruitment steps, including the Nova SBE career support tools. The content is tailored to each Masters Program.
When: Spring Semester.
How: Students are assigned to a class, enrollment is managed by the Career Services. Students are required to attend the classes in which they have been enrolled. Detailed information will be sent by email.
3. Career Events (mandatory to attend 3): Events aim to help students complement and consolidate relevant information and tools to increase the knowledge of the market and the success rate of recruitment processes. Contents include both preparation for recruitment processes and knowledge about specific functions/industries/countries/organizations. Career Events are a critical part of the Career Program enabling a practical perspective to career topics and a chance for students to be closer to the job market, which is key to the overall students preparation and networking. These events usually take place on campus but some can happen at the Organizations offices or even virtually.

On Campus Company Presentations;
Skills Workshops;
Networking Cocktails;
Breakfast with CEO: offers a select number of students the opportunity to have breakfast with an Organizations CEO (or a Senior Executive) that will inspire and motivate Students in their careers, promoting a relaxed environment for the recruiter to get to know the profile of Nova SBEs students.
When: All year round. Schedule varies according to the event. Events on Campus usually take place on Mondays 5.30PM-7:00PM and Wednesdays 4PM-5:30PM / 5:30PM-7:00PM
How: A detailed plan will be communicated in February 2018. In addition, Career Events will be announced weekly in Moodle and Nova SBE Career Hub platform and newsletter. Enrollment is done for each event via online survey following each communication.
Requisite: It is mandatory for Masters Students to participate in a minimum of 3 Career Events during the Spring Semester.
4. Other Relevant Career Activities (strongly recommended):
Career Fairs: Involving more than 60 organizations and 50 corporate stands, the main goal is to promote a closer interaction between Employers and all students from Nova SBE. Its a great opportunity to get unique insights from a wide variety of players of the economy.
When: 14 February 2018 9AM-6PM / TBC November 2018 9AM-6PM
Requisites: Non-mandatory activity.
Business Games: Different type of activities/challenges sponsored by Companies/Organizations with a competitive scenario enrolled, providing the opportunity to get a closer insight into the Organization activity, network and to open recruitment opportunities. Examples: Business Case Competition, Financial Trading Simulator, Case-Studies, Virtual Business Case, among others.
When: All year round.
Requisites: Non-mandatory activity.
Career Counseling: All throughout the Masters Program, students can count with the support of a dedicated Career Counselor, part of the Career Services team. With extensive experience in personal and professional development, the Career Counselors provide on-demand, personal support to students: from helping clarifying career options, drawing a career plan, to practical support as guidance on CV, cover letter writing and preparation for interviews.
When: All year round + up to 3 years after Students graduation from you Masters Program.
How: Students were informed of who is the assigned Career Counselor by e-mail before the start of their semester at Nova SBE. Sessions are booked directly with the Career Counselor. Students are required to prepare the counselling session in advance and communicate the sessions objectives and agenda when booking the session.

5. Career Online Tools:
Nova SBE students have exclusive access to a number of online tools where they can find valuable information for their job hunt:
Nova SBE Career Hub - the students door to the marketplace! Companies have direct access to Nova SBE Career Hub and to students CVs (if approved by student). Among other services, it includes a Resources database with extensive support materials. In addition, every Thursday, a platform newsletter is sent by e-mail to all students with the latest job postings of the week, relevant events and business games > Students receive access to Nova SBE Career Hub via e-mail.
Goinglobal - worldwide job/internship listings and international career guides. > Goinglobal is accessible via Nova SBE Career Hub quick links at home page.
Vault - job search help with career advice and mock interviews, among others, organized by sector > Vault is accessible via Nova SBE Career Hub quick links at home page.
VMock online tool that provides detailed feedback to improve your CV down to the last bullet point > Students receive access to VMock via e-mail.
Nova SBE Code of Conduct covers access to Nova SBE Career Tools. Access is exclusive to Nova SBE students who are responsible for the reliability and veracity of their profile information. Noncompliance with these rules implies the application of sanctions accordingly, including exclusion of Nova SBE Careers and Alumni services.
Bibliography
Teaching method
Short theoretical debrief followed by practical exercises on different subjects related to personal and professional development. When relevant, case studies will be presented.
Evaluation method
PASS OR FAIL
Mastering Your Career is a mandatory component of all Masters Programs worth 2 ECTS.
The requirements for the program are as follows:
Industry Report (deliver report to respective counselor by 11th of March 2018);
Career Classes (mandatory attendance in pre-scheduled Career Classes 6 hours in total);
Career Events (mandatory attendance in at least 3 Career Events);
Upload CV onto Nova SBE Career Hub with Nova SBE Template.
Failing the above requirements implies failing the Course.
These activities must be completed during the Spring Semester by 15th of May 2018.
